wuh-urd!

I'll figure out what I will do with this later.
How about a t-shirt design? (again :/)

Actually, I'm workin on my graphic design
self-promotion piece that consists of a comic
book / graphic novel style date-book. So this
has some significance in that sense.

I am really drawn to this typeface. EDO.
Somewhat obsessed.

I feel I am unwittingly participating in a
create art everyday for a year thing. But
as usual my year doesn't start when
everyone else's does. No need to play
catch-up. things happen when they are
supposed to.

Magnificent + Marvelous

An old saying between friends.

I made up this typeface inspired by a made up word.
This is perfect for a full front silk screen print on white
and charcoal grey / black tee.

Sledding around NAU

So this one night Lyd and I go out playing in the snow with our friends.
I notice that everywhere we go the ground is covered in snow. So I
decide to pull Lyd along in the sled we had. I decided I’d pull her
along behind me as long as there was enough snow and ice to easily sled
her around. It turned out that there was enough snow and ice around the
campus to go across campus from north to south without having to stop
sledding. Such a good memory.

This painting was done as a birthday gift for her. In my own
cartoon-y-ish style I recreated the event. I threw NAU’s old main in
there to reference the location. It was a little difficult to recreate
myself in a stylized way that I feel Lydia is created. So my image is a
little more realistic due to the fact I am not aware of how my
characteristic facial expressions and how mannerisms come across. I
worked from still images for my portrait. It was a lot easier to create
Lydia’s character because I am aware of the nuances that make her who
she is.

I haven’t painted in a while. I stayed diligent about breaking down the
image from back to front and working in layers of colors from neutral to
more vibrant colors.

Researching images and looking at photos of NAU made me really miss the
NAU campus and the snow-play in the sometimes crazy snofall winters.
Every three to five years(?) there is a lot of snowfall.

Pussy Rabbit

SCUMBAG - "it doesn't matter where you start, it's where you end up."
For the sake of it.

I found some of my old work and decided to post them.
These are a mix of multi-media paintings and drawings.
They all having a dimension of type. Whether it be a label
or name or a complete hand drawn typography element.
The element of the words sometimes associating with the
image | illustration and most of the time not at all. Most
of these pieces are a stream of consciousness regurgitating
all that a see and think onto paper. Making art for the sake of it.

Art, Bikes, Music, BBQ, and Dance /// 3rd Annual Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle

As an avid fan of hip-hop culture (and closet tagger) it was fascinating
to witness the 3rd Annual Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle. The event
was an all day affair at deFremery Park (Little Bobby Hutton). It was a
free family event and included a portion of the East Bay Area community.

This event was one of the rare occasions that I travel to the East Bay.
The event was definitely worth the trip. Most of the events including:
musical performances, a graffiti battle (performed by national graffiti
artists), DJ-ing, and a B-boy competition were all done out doors. I left
before the live appearance of Pharoah Monch (…lame) but I picked up
some dope vinyl stickers by DREAM. There was an awesome feeling of a
tight community which is characteristic of the hip-hop culture.

This was awesome! Volunteers were providing a bicycle generated power
supply for the turntables. The volunteers had the best view of the b-boy
battle goin’ on In front of a huge crowd.

Brian Drayton, Director of Richmond Spokes hooked my bike up
with some much needed tuning-up.

Bambizzle

I had the chance to work with Brian Drayton at Richmond
Spokes on a vinyl poster representing the Bamboo Bicycle project.

These style of bikes are becoming popular and are gaining
much press. They seem to be a symbol of the modern Green
movement and have a direct relationship to sustainability
and Eco-consciousness.

The functionality of the bike combined with the image of
the bicycle's biological components create an inherent icon.

Photos of this bike and their process are linked to the web

I just got done editing the photos I took of my pop's wedding.
A quaint affair. Rachel is also pregnant with twins. 'She is with
child." The baby shower took place the next day. Lots of food
and great people.
